South Texas Blood & Tissue Center Executive to Serve as Treasurer for American Association of Tissue Banks

SAN ANTONIO (August XX 2009) — The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) recently announced that Mary Beth Fisk, vice president of Development and Tissue services at the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC), has been elected to serve as the Treasurer on the Board of Governors for the 2009-2010 term.

Fisk first joined the AATB Board of Governors in 2007 and also served as the co-chair for AATB’s Council of Accredited Tissue Banks. The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is a non-profit, scientific and educational organization whose membership totals more than 100 accredited tissue banks and 1,100 individual members. These banks recover tissue from more than 30,000 donors and distribute in excess of two million allografts for transplant annually. Virtually all of the human tissue distributed for transplant in the U.S. comes from AATB-accredited tissue banks.

“It is an honor to be chosen from such a distinguished group of peers that comprise the membership of AATB,” Fisk said. “It has been a pleasure working with colleagues from across the nation and around the globe on issues of great importance to tissue donation and transplantation.”

Fisk has worked at STBTC since 1994 and has more than 25 years of experience in blood banking and medical services. A San Antonio native, Fisk holds a bachelor’s degree from Wayland University and is a certified medical technologist, tissue banking specialist and quality auditor.

Fisk is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), America’s Blood Centers Cord Blood Advisory Taskforce, the American Medical Technologists Association, the International Society for Cellular Therapy, the National Marrow Donor Program’s Cord Blood Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors for the Alamo Regional Science Fair.

Fisk serves as an AABB Assessor and has chaired the Educational Advisory Committee for the AABB. Fisk also continues to co-chair the Accreditation Committee for the AATB, which establishes and maintains the highest quality standards in tissue banking.
